Outreach and Lab Engineer (Spectroscopy and XRD)
Emily Snell earned her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her M.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. She joined Duke University's Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF) in 2022 as a Program Coordinator and transitioned to her current role as Outreach and Lab Engineer in 2023.
At SMIF, Emily supports materials characterization and analysis through spectroscopic and diffractive techniques. She provides training, technical assistance, and guidance to researchers while also leading outreach programs that connect K-12 students and educators with hands-on experiences in nanotechnology.
With a background in chemistry education and laboratory instruction, Emily is committed to fostering inclusive, hands-on learning experiences that empower students to see themselves as scientists and engineers.
