Expanded Cryo-EM Access at SMIF for External Users

🔬 The Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF) is expanding access to its state-of-the-art cryo-EM capabilities.
External users, including those from industry, can now access our Thermo Fisher Krios G3i 300 kV transmission electron microscope, equipped with a Gatan K3 Bioquantum system.
Key features include:
- Direct electron detection with the K3 camera for high-resolution, low-dose imaging
- Energy-filtered imaging (GIF) to improve signal-to-noise ratio and contrast
- Optimized for Single Particle Analysis (SPA) and Cryo-Electron Tomography (cryo-ET) workflows
This combination of hardware and software enables high-throughput, high-resolution structural biology studies — from macromolecular complexes to cellular environments.
